As January marks National Blood Donor Month, Vitalant and many organizers are urging community members to start the new year with a lifesaving resolution: donate blood. The winter season often strains blood supplies due to illnesses and busy schedules, yet patients undergoing surgeries, cancer treatments, and emergency care depend on a ready supply of blood every day.
While all blood types are needed, type O is in high demand because it is frequently used in emergencies. Regular donations are critical: eligible donors can give whole blood up to six times a year, though many donate only once annually.
This month, Vitalant’s “Thrive in ’25” Giveaway offers incentive. Donors who give blood between January 8 and 31 will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of three $10,000 gift cards. Recent FDA changes may allow those previously deferred to donate; updated eligibility information is available at vitalant.org/eligibility.
In Reagan County, the National Donor Month Blood Drive will take place Thursday, January 16, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Reagan Hospital District, 1300 North Main, Bloodmobile. Donors will be entered into the giveaway, and appointments are encouraged to reduce wait times.

Make a difference this January by helping ensure patients have the blood they need—because of you, life doesn’t stop.
