In front of a packed Homecoming crowd, the Reagan County Owls soared to a 50-14 victory over McCamey, thanks in large part to standout performances from senior Nick Franklin and quarterback Jarrett Brown. The win keeps Reagan County undefeated at 4-0 and sets up a highly anticipated clash with fellow unbeaten Iraan this Thursday.
Franklin, the Owls’ multi-talented wide receiver and defensive force, had a night to remember. He accounted for three touchdowns, including a 97-yard reception that electrified the home crowd in the third quarter.
Franklin also played a pivotal role on defense, recovering a fumble that set up another score and returning a punt for 35 yards, putting McCamey on their heels.
“Nick had an incredible night,” Coach Kyle Brown said “He’s been working on trusting his speed and instincts, and it all came together tonight. We’re always looking for ways to get the ball in his hands because when he’s on, he’s unstoppable. His 97-yard touchdown was just him pressing the gas and going.”
Franklin finished with five receptions for 238 yards and two touchdowns while adding 69 rushing yards on five carries. His performance on both sides of the ball earned him the title of Homecoming hero, but the night was also significant for another senior who stepped up in a big way.
With starting quarterback Kason Brown sidelined due to injury, his brother Jarrett Brown took the reins of the Owls’ offense and didn’t miss a beat.
Jarrett went 11-of-17 through the air for 316 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 97 yards on 15 carries, adding a rushing touchdown in the second quarter that helped Reagan County take a 22-0 lead at halftime.
“Jarrett’s been great for us,” Coach Brown said of the senior’s leadership. “He understands the ins and outs of our offense, and does a great job of trusting his instincts. He brings a different play-style to the quarterback position for us, but the end result is the same. We have playmakers all over the field, and he has the ability to get the ball in their hands.”
Dominic Johnson and Omrie Johnson added to the Owls’ aerial attack, with Dominic catching two passes for 29 yards, while Omrie had two receptions for 42 yards. Chris Johnson and Alfredo Hidalgo also contributed on the ground, with Hidalgo’s punishing touchdown run in the third quarter standing out.
Defensively, Reagan County was just as dominant, holding McCamey to 256 total yards. Junior linebacker Ezgar Vazquez led the way with 12 tackles, while defenders Lyric Holland, Hector Rios and Hidalgo added 8 tackles apiece. Sophomore Dominic Johnson rounded out his stellar night with a pick-six, a key moment that deflated McCamey’s early momentum.
Coach Brown praised his team for their discipline throughout the game, particularly their ability to limit penalties for the first time this season.
“Our receivers blocked exceptionally well, and for the first time all year, we didn’t commit a single penalty in that position group,” Brown said. “That’s a huge testament to the unselfishness and focus of our team.”

Eyes on Iraan
With their Homecoming victory behind them, the Owls now turn their attention to a critical Thursday night road game against the Iraan Braves. Like Reagan County, Iraan enters the matchup at 4-0, making this a battle of undefeated teams.
“Iraan is going to be our toughest test yet,” Coach Brown noted. “They run an aggressive 3-3 Stack defense and like to blitz their linebackers, which will test our offensive line. They man up on the back end, and like to press, so we will have plenty of opportunities to make big plays.”
“Offensively, they’re an air-raid team that’s incredibly efficient,” Brown said. “They run just a few plays, but they execute them flawlessly. We’ve got to be sharp, especially in our secondary.”
Brown emphasized that limiting mistakes and winning the turnover battle will be key to victory.
“Our defense has forced a lot of turnovers this season, and that’s going to be critical against Iraan,” Brown said. “Their quarterback is accurate, and we need to put pressure on him and force him out of his comfort zone.”
On offense, Reagan County’s speed will be the difference-maker.
“When we’re healthy, no one in the area, shoot, the region can match our speed,” Brown said. “The key will be for Jarrett to get the ball out quickly and let our playmakers do their thing.”
The stage is set for a thrilling Thursday night showdown. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. in Iraan, and the game is free to attend.
