Consumers are being warned to slow down and verify unexpected emails before clicking links, entering security codes or sending money as scammers increasingly use realistic invitations, invoices and login requests to gain access to personal accounts. Recent public alerts from the Federal Trade Commission and FBI highlight several common email scams, including fake meeting invitations, fraudulent permit invoices, Microsoft device-code schemes and messages designed to trick users into running commands on their computers
