Cabalgata and Rodeo Coming July 26

A full day of horseback riding, rodeo action, and family fun is planned for Saturday, July 26, in Big Lake, culminating with a Jaripeo de Yeguas (Mare Rodeo) and community celebration at the South Side Arena.
The festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a cabalgata (horseback ride) that starts near Ferguson Lane and follows the same route as last year. Riders will travel up Louisiana Avenue, then down 12th Street to U.S. Highway 137, and continue south toward Russek Street. The group is expected to arrive at the South Side Arena by 3:00 p.m.
Following a short break, event organizers will open entries for several competitions including mutton bustin’, reining, and bronc riding. The formal program will begin at 4:00 p.m. with recognition of sponsors, a prayer, and the national anthem.
4:30 p.m. – Mutton Bustin’
5:30 p.m. – Reining Competition (Winner receives $250 and a championship buckle)
6:30 p.m. – Bronc Riding (10 riders in Round 1; Top 5 advance to final round. Champion takes home $509 and a buckle)
The event promises a 100% family-friendly atmosphere, with games and prizes for children, a variety of food booths, and public participation events including prize-winning mare rides.
Glass bottles are strictly prohibited, and admission is just $10 per person. Music will be provided throughout the day by DJ Parrandas during the ride and DJ Mi Ranchito during the evening festivities.
