Reagan County Head Coach Blake Weston will be heading back to Sonora. That news came when the Sonora ISD board of trustees met Monday evening, March 8th and voted to hire him. Weston confirmed the news by phone shortly after the vote.

Weston, who was hired from Sonora in 2017, will take over as athletic director and head football coach for the Sonora Broncos following the departure of Kevin Sherrill, who left Sonora in January for 4A-II Vernon.

"This was an extremely tough decision for me and my family," Weston said. "Big Lake welcomed us with open arms, and over the last four years it has become home for us."

Weston said the Sonora position offered something he couldn't pass up at this point in his career.

"It simply gets me closer to family," Weston said. "My family is in the San Antonio area, and this will get us on I-10 where I can reach my parents much easier."

Weston came to Big Lake in 2017 after a 10-year-stint in Sonora where he was offensive coordinator for several of the Broncos' playoff runs.

During his time in Reagan County, Weston posted an overall record of 13-30 with the Owls best mark coming in his first year at 5-6.

"I will forever be grateful to Big Lake and Reagan County ISD for allowing me the opportunity to coach here," Weston said. "It has been a blessing for me and my family. Big Lake will always hold a special place in my heart."

Reagan County ISD will now be in the market for a new athletic director and head football coach.

With a good group of athletes coming up through the program, and brand new facilities, the Reagan County position should garner looks from a
solid group of applicants.
