The Reagan County Sheriff’s Department’s crack-down on illegal drugs in Big Lake continued Tuesday evening as the department executed a no-knock search warrant on a home located at 409 South Texas in Big Lake.

Sergeant Nick Hammer said the department obtained the search warrant after receiving information from a cooperating individual (CI) that marijuana was being sold from the residence.

Hammer said deputies entered the home on Tuesday and were greeted with the overwhelming smell of marijuana.

In all, over two ounces of marijuana were recovered from the home along with other paraphernalia including pipes, and a scale.

“The marijuana we recovered is considered high quality,” Hammer said. “It is also a large quantity, and is very potent.”

The deputies also recovered a pill bottle with a white powder inside which field tested positive for cocaine.

They also found a pipe with residue which tested positive for methamphetamine.

Both the pill bottle and pipe were sent to the Texas DPS Lab for testing. Hammer said additional charges are possible pending the results.

No one was at the house at the time of the search.

Deputies located the two men who live in the house at their place of work and made the arrests there.

Jose Iracheta, 19, and Omar Hernandez, 22, were arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana More than Two Ounces but Less than Four.

That charge was upgraded to a State Jail Felony since the home in question is within 1,000 feet of a drug free zone.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Iracheta admitted to authorities that he possessed the marijuana.

Hernandez told investigators he knew the marijuana was in the house, and had no problem with ‘recreational use.’

Hammer said the Sheriff’s Department is continuing their drug raids across Big Lake.

“Once again,  people need to be aware that we are very active,” Hammer said. “We will act on information we are given. If you are using or selling any type of illegal drug, we will catch you and charge you.”
