This year’s SMC Fest promises to be bigger and better than ever.

St. Margaret of Cortona’s annual event will kick-off on Friday with a dance featuring DJ Parrandas at the Community Building.

The dance has a $5 entrance fee and will run from 8 p.m. until midnight.

All proceeds from the dance will go toward the St. Margaret of Cortona Youth Scholarship.

One of the highlights of the SMC Fest is this year’s raffle.

The raffle has a top prize of $10,000.

“We have a great assortment of prizes for this year’s raffle,” Amanda Leija said. “Who couldn’t use an additional $10,000?”

Other raffle prizes include:
- Weekend for 2 at Star of Texas Bed and Breakfast
- 65 Inch TV
- 2 - $500 gift cards
- Greengo Deer Feeder
- Yeti Haul
- 3 - $100 gift cards
- 3 Day/2 Night Hunt at Kuenstler Rams & Exotics  for 3 people (2 Full Curl Rams, 1 Black Buck, Unlimited Hogs and Predators)

The Little Miss SMC Pageant will also be held Friday at 5 p.m. at the St. Margaret of Cortona Parish Hall.

A home run derby will also be held at the softball field starting at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Entry into the event is $20 for 15 balls. The winner will receive a Miken 2018 Psycho USSSA Maxload bat and bat bag.

The St. Vincent BBQ Cook-Off, which is sanctioned by the Lone Star BBQ Society will also begin Friday with setup starting at Noon and the cook’s meeting at 7 p.m.

Saturday will be a full day of events.

The softball tournament will run throughout the day at the Men’s Softball field.

Food, craft and art vendors will be set up inside and outside the Community Building. They will open their booths at 11 a.m. through 6 p.m. Some vendors will continue selling through midnight.

The SMC Classic Car Show, sponsored by Glasscock Chevrolet, will begin with the lineup at Noon with a $20 entry fee. Judging will start at 1 p.m. with awards being given for Best of Show, Top 5, Best Bike and Long Distance.

The event will feature a Kids Corner with bounce houses (including a water slide bounce), face painting, access to the County Pool during regular hours and after hours  (similar to hours for private pool parties), and more.  Wristbands for the Kid’s Corner are $5.

Bingo will be held inside the community building. Doors for the bingo will open at 2 p.m. with play starting at 3 p.m. with 20 games in the session. Cards are $10 each.

The BBQ Cook-off will continue on Saturday with contestants turning in their items for judging starting at 11 am.  Anyone who would like to be a judge for the BBQ contest needs to stop by the BBQ tent at 10:30 a.m.

Music will be provided by Big Ed from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Live music will kickoff after 5 p.m.

The live music will be headlined by Latin Express, who have played for prominent figures such as President George W. Bush.

Other live music includes Neto y sus Temibles, Navegantes de Bravo and Forgotten Road.

“It’s going to be a great night of music featuring a variety of music,” Eddie Subia said. “Latin Express is an awesome band that was invited to and played for a presidential inaugural ball. It will be an incredible show.”

The SMC Fest will wrap up on Sunday with Loteria at the St Margaret of Cortona Parish Hall.

Doors will open at 1 p.m. with play starting at 2:30 p.m.

Cards are $10 each.
