Reagan County Senior Pablo Hernandez was an RBI machine Monday night, driving in four on three hits to lead the Owls past Kermit 16-3 in the team’s home opener.
Pablo drove in two runs in the bottom of the third inning on an inside-the-park home run to center field.
He scored another RBI for the team in the fourth inning on a single to third base. That hit scored Tristan Ortiz while Isaiah Perez scored on a throw.
The Owls grabbed an early lead in the game by scoring on an error, a wild pitch and a ground out by Jacob Hernandez.
The Owls put up five runs in the fourth inning.
Along with Pablo’s hit, Sebastian Sandoval also had a big inning with a double on a pop fly to center which scored Jose DelRio and Pablo.
Sandoval finished the game with three hits, two RBI’s and three runs scored.
Tristan Ortiz finished the game with two hits, two RBI’s and a run scored.
DelRio took the win on the mound for the Owls. He put together three innings, allowing one run on no hits and striking out two. He was impressive with his first pitch tossing 10 first-pitch-strikes to the 13 batters he faced in the game.
Sebastian and Pablo entered the game from the bullpen and helped close out the game in relief.
The Owls ended up with 11 hits in the game. Sandoval, Hernandez, Tristan Ortiz and Nathan DeLeon all had multiple hits for Reagan County.
Hernandez and Sandoval each managed three hits in the victory.
The Reagan County Owls are back in action today as they take part in the Comanche Springs Classic in Fort Stockton.
Coach Soto said he entered this year’s tournament with the long-term goal of having his team play on the Fort Stockton field - a location they could see later this season come playoff time.
The Owls start tournament play against Lake View at 2 p.m. today with their next game following at 4:30 p.m. against Eastwood.
The group takes Friday off as other teams get their tournament reps in.
The Owls are back in action on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Fabens.
They wrap up tournament play at 5 p.m. with a rematch against Kermit.
