Big Lake’s biggest event is back in 2021!

The Big Lake Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the Star Spangled Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 3rd at Reagan County’s North Park featuring Whiskey Myers and Kevin Fowler.

“The last year has been tough on so many people,” Chamber Director Loretta Epperson said. “Our event in 2020 had to be canceled due to COVID-19, and we were not sure if we would be able to hold it in 2021.”

That all changed in early March when Governor Greg Abbott announced Texas would be opening back up to 100 percent and the mask mandate would be lifted.
Reagan County Judge Jim O’Bryan said he, in spirit of Abbott’s decision, would open all county facilities back up, and would place no COVID restrictions on their use.

Epperson said people will likely be encouraged to wear a mask, but they will not be mandatory. She also emphasized the North Park is a large area, so people should be able to find a spot where they feel comfortable.

“We were able to roll over our two main bands to this year since COVID forced us to cancel in 2020,” Epperson said. “Once the Chamber board and I heard about the Governor’s decision, we reached out to see if we would be able to use the park, and give notice to our bands.”

The Chamber board, comprised of J.L. Mankin, Dora Carrasco, Tiffany DelaRosa, Lynn White, Cindy Mitchell and Stephen Dodd, voted in favor of having the event on Friday after speaking with Judge O’Bryan.

“I think this will be a great chance for the community to come together and celebrate our nation’s independence,” Epperson said. “We are looking forward to it.”
Epperson said the Chamber will be rushing to put this year’s event together.

“July is right around the corner for us,” Epperson said. “We usually take a full year to get everything in place, so the next three months will be tight for us.”
The Chamber is looking to add a third band to the lineup as well. That spot is typically filled by a Tejano or Norteño style band.

If you, or anyone you know, are interested in having a food or craft booth at the event, please contact the Chamber at 325-884-2980 or visit the Chamber office located at 120 N Main in Big Lake.
