Laura Adilene Harville Settle, 93, passed from this life to the next on Sunday, December 6, 2020. She was born near Oplin, Texas at the family home to Tina Bartley Harville and Sidney S. Harville on April 8, 1927.

Adilene graduated from Oplin High School in 1943. She worked in Abilene at the soda fountain in her uncle’s pharmacy. She married the love of her life, Henry Settle, on May 12, 1945 at a family friend’s home in Baird. They moved to Big Lake after Henry returned from active duty in the military. They made Big Lake their home where they raised their five children.

She was a stay-at-home mom for many years. She worked part-time at Mac’s Grocery and as a census taker. She made her career as a secretary for Reagan County ISD. She was dearly loved by school personnel and students.

Adilene devoted her life to Henry and to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She and Henry attended all their activities, which involved driving countless miles, being their greatest fans, and getting them ready for games and events.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Trailblazers, Reagan County Garden Club, and 20th Century Club. She served as an officer in each organization. She enjoyed fellowship with friends over coffee, gardening, and volunteering in the community. Adilene was an excellent seamstress, cook, and enjoyed needlework. After retirement, she and Henry took many trips together and with a group of friends.

Adilene was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, and her sons, Harville Settle and Opie (D.W.) Settle, her parents, four sisters, and brother.
