  • Santa Rita Star Spangled Celebration

    Big Lake’s biggest celebration of the year will take place Saturday, July 3rd at Reagan County’s North Park.
    Coming off of the COVID-19 Pandemic that canceled last year’s event, the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center’s 2021 Santa Rita Star Spangled Celebration is shaping up to be the largest in a line of monster 4th of July celebrations in Big Lake.
    This year’s event will feature Whiskey Myers, Kevin Fowler and Los Rieleros del Norte along with a huge fireworks show.
    Here are some things that will help make sure you make the most of this FREE ADMISSION event!
  • Nikaya Raelynn Ortiz

    Nikaya Raelynn Ortiz, 8, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021, in Big Lake.

    Public viewing will be from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Big Lake, 510 E. 7th St., Big Lake, Tx. 76932, and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2021, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel.

    A balloon release will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2021, at James H. Bird Memorial Stadium in Big Lake.

    Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Pastor Todd Nelson, pastor of Christian Faith Center, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
  • House Fire Claims Life of Young Big Lake Girl

    A young Big Lake girl lost her life following a house fire this morning in Big Lake, Texas.

    Reagan County Fire Chief Larry Miles said the fire started shortly before 7 a.m. at a residence located at 1005 N Utah Avenue.

    He saw that dream come to life Tuesday as he signed his letter of commitment to Howard Payne University.

    Logan, a recent graduate of Reagan County High School, said he was weighing his options between several colleges, but a recent visit to Howard Payne sealed the deal for him.bs

    Chamber Director Loretta Epperson said those interested in attending need to be aware of a change made to this year’s event... A $20 Cooler Fee.
  • Roy Myers and the West Texas Short Line Railroad

    Roy Myers has always been fascinated by trains.

    “I’ve loved them since I was a kid,” the 77-year-old native Kansan said. “I can remember being young and wondering how they start, how they work, where they run to.”

    That childhood curiosity bloomed in Myers throughout his life culminating in West Texas Short Line Railroad circling in his backyard.
  • Los Rieleros del Norte Added to Star Spangled Celebration Lineup

    The Big Lake Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the addition of Los Rieleros del Norte to its 2021 Star Spangled Celebration lineup.

    Los Rieleros will join Whiskey Myers and Kevin Fowler on Saturday, July 3rd at the Reagan County North Park stage.

    The event boasts FREE admission.

    The Chamber, in the spirit of keeping the event free to the public, is actively seeking sponsors.
  • Weston Leaving Reagan County for Sonora AD Job

    Reagan County Head Coach Blake Weston will be heading back to Sonora. That news came when the Sonora ISD board of trustees met Monday evening, March 8th and voted to hire him. Weston confirmed the news by phone shortly after the vote. 
  • Two More Reagan County Care Center Employees Test Positive for COVID-19

    Reagan County added three more positive COVID-19 cases to its total yesterday with two of those coming from Reagan County Care Center employees.

    The three positives raise the total number attributed to Reagan County to nine. The total number of positive cases is a cumulative figure which will never go down.

    The Texas Department of State Health Services is showing Reagan County has two recoveries out of the nine total cases.
